HEADACHE treatment

Chiropractic adjustments are one of the main therapies used by our Chiropractors to help treat headaches. Chiropractic adjustments aim to restore movement to the vertebrae in your spine (mostly your neck) which may have become stiff and not moving normally. Most common types of headaches can result in restriction of the vertebrae in your neck, and increase muscle tension in both your neck and shoulders. For this reason our Chiropractors will often combine Chiropractic adjustments along with muscle therapies such as dry needling, trigger point therapy and/or massage to assist in relieving headache symptoms.

HEADACHE TYPES

Whilst there are many different types of headaches, the most common types we diagnose and treat are cervicogenic, tension type and migraine headaches. Each type of headache has differing symptoms, and it is important to see your local Chiropractor for appropriate diagnosis.

Cervicogenic Headaches

Stiffness and tightness that has developed in the muscles and vertebrae of the upper neck is usually the origin. You can frequently find the pain will start at the base of your neck, and can have the potential to radiate forwards. Pain in the neck, around the eyes and other parts of the face are generally associated symptoms of this type of headache. Our experienced Cockburn Chiropractors find patients experiencing these headaches have reduced mobility in their neck. Chiropractic adjustments and muscle therapies are a common ways we help treat this type of headache.

Tension Type Headaches

Sometimes considered the most common type of headache, our Chiropractors frequently consult with patients experiencing tension type headaches. These patients commonly feel band like pain that radiates across the front of the forehead. Stress, whether it be physical or emotional, is generally a large contributing factor to these headaches. Our experienced Perth Chiropractors often find patients that experience this type of headache, will also have musculoskeletal symptoms similar to that of a cervicogenic headache.

Migraines

Migraines can be painful and disorienting. Patients will often experience throbbing pain, and can have any combination of associated symptoms from vision loss, vomiting, sensitivity to light and/or dizziness. Migraines can also be further categorised into Migraines with or without aura. It is important to consult with a Chiropractor if you believe you are experiencing migraines to ensure correct diagnosis and therefore treatment advice.
